Lille threatened to banish Leny Yoro to the reserves if he turned down a transfer to Manchester United, according to reports in Spain.

Real Madrid were interested in signing the 18-year-old and made an offer in the region of £20m for the centre-back, which Lille turned down. Yoro has entered the final 12 months of his deal with the French side and Real Madrid had hoped to sign the teenager for a knockdown fee.

Yoro had been keen on the move to Madrid. However, a £52m bid from Manchester United looks set to win the race with the Frenchman having undergone a medical with the Premier League side.

Spanish outlet Marca are reporting that Lille threatened to banish Yoro to the reserves for the 2024-25 campaign, if he turned down the move to England.

Despite the player’s preference for Real Madrid, Lille refused to allow Yoro to leave for a cut-price fee and reportedly threatened to exile him from the first-team squad, if he turned down Manchester United and ran down his contract to leave on a free transfer next summer.

Yoro made 44 appearances in all competitions for Lille last season, scoring three goals, and was named in the Ligue 1 Team of the Season.
