Lincoln City have moved quickly to steady the ship following Michael Skubala’s departure to Bristol City, confirming Chris Cohen and Tom Shaw as joint head coaches.

The pair, both 39, step up from their previous roles as assistant coaches after playing a key part in one of the most successful eras in the club’s modern history.

Last season, they were heavily involved in guiding the Imps to the League One title, a campaign that saw Lincoln rack up 103 points and secure promotion to the Championship for the first time in 65 years.

Cohen and Shaw were already central figures behind the scenes, helping to shape the team’s playing style, daily training work, and overall environment. Their promotion is seen as a move to maintain continuity rather than rip things up after Skubala’s exit.

Lincoln acted swiftly after Bristol City triggered a release clause to appoint Skubala on a long-term deal. Rather than look externally, the club opted to reward internal progress, trusting two familiar faces who already know the squad and the system inside out.

Speaking to the club's media team, chief executive Liam Scully said: “Chris and Tom have made an enormous contribution to the success we have enjoyed as a football club, and particularly during our League One title-winning season.

“They are outstanding coaches, brilliant people and have fully embraced the culture, standards and identity we have worked so hard to build at Lincoln City

“The relationships they have developed with the players, staff and supporters have been hugely important, and we believe this appointment provides continuity, stability and an exciting opportunity to continue moving the football club forward."
