NEC Nijmegen beat Excelsior 2-0 on Saturday in Rotterdam to stay third in the Eredivisie, with Bryan Linssen and Basar Önal on target.

In the 30th minute, Bryan Linssen turned in Darko Nejasmic's pass from the left of the six-yard box to break the deadlock.

After the restart, Basar Önal doubled the lead with a composed finish from Sami Ouaissa's through ball (71.).

Gonzalo Cretazz kept the visitors in control, denying Gyan de Regt several times as Excelsior chased a response.

Stijn van Gassel made three saves, yet the hosts lacked cutting edge despite nine attempts.

Three minutes of second half stoppage time were indicated before the whistle.

NEC Nijmegen registered 12 attempts and held 54.9% possession. Excelsior finished with 45.1% of the ball.

Next, Excelsior visit PEC Zwolle. NEC Nijmegen host Feyenoord next, before facing AZ in the KNVB Beker final.
