People thought he was going to slow down, play a retirement plan here and see out his final days in football, but it is clear now that he actually joined to play competitively for as long as his body allows him.

He has been the heart and soul of what Inter Miami have tried to do ever since he joined, and it is clear with his numbers that he is not taking it for granted.

Messi still has his sights on the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and if anything, he needs to be at his very best so that he is able to help Argentina retain their crown.

Which is exactly why Messi has looked insane (again) this season. So much so that he has created history in the league once again.

After his first-half assist against New York City FC, Messi became the first player in MLS history to have recorded 35 goals and assists or more in consecutive seasons.

That is something that even the best of the best in MLS have not done. Players like Carlos Vela, and Donnovan, who played or have played in the league for so long, have not been able to pull off what Messi has done in his first two seasons.

Then again, though, it is harsh on those players to be compared with an icon like Messi, who is widely touted as the greatest player in the history of the sport.

It is still great to see that the Argentine legend is still going strong at the age of 36. Most players slow down, have a cup of tea and retire soon after.

Messi still looks like he is in the hunt for a second World Cup crown, winning which would definitely put him far and away as the greatest player who has ever lived, if he is not already.

However, it is also good for Inter Miami if he keeps performing this way. Messi raises the floor and ceiling of this club, and if they are to challenge for titles this season, they will need Messi to do his godly magic once again.

It is still wild to think about the fact that Messi is playing in the MLS, and when you look at the statistics, you are left even more shocked than before.
