Lionel Messi is edging closer to a comeback from injury, Inter Miami boss Tata Martino has revealed.

The 37-year-old has been sidelined since helping Argentina to victory in the Copa América final with an ankle problem.

Martino announced on Friday that Messi returned to individual training earlier this week but the club are being cautious on his integration into full team training.

“He feels good but isn’t back with the group yet,” Martino confirmed. “But it isn’t far away.”

The former Barcelona star has already been ruled out of his country’s international fixtures next month.

However, there is some optimism that he could make his return for the Florida outfit against Philadelphia Union in mid September.
