Barcelona legend Lionel Messi follows only one current member of the first-team squad in Catalunya’s capital on Instagram.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Pedri as the player in question.

Messi spent time as a teammate of no fewer than six members of Hansi Flick’s current ranks, namely Marc-André ter Stegen, Iñaki Peña, Ronald Araújo, Pedri, Frenkie de Jong and Ansu Fati.

In addition, Alejandro Balde was a regular in first-team training alongside the Argentine icon.

And yet, despite all of this, and his ongoing links to Barcelona, Messi follows only the aforementioned Pedri on his official Instagram account.

The two are understood to have struck up a strong bond during their short-lived time together at the Camp Nou, one which converted into collective brilliance on the pitch.

As per Sport:

‘Of all the Barcelona players mentioned, the only one Messi follows on Instagram is Pedri. The relationship between the Argentine and the Canarian was excellent from day one. Both on and off the pitch.’
