Argentina were dominant from the outset and ran out comfortable winners.

Lautero Martinez, Angel Di Maria and Paulo Dybala were all on the scoresheet as Lionel Scaloni’s side cruised to a 3-0 victory.

Lionel Messi may not have been among the goals but he was absolutely outstanding throughout.

He produced a magical assist for Martinez’s opener. He then created Dybala’s goal in stoppage-time.

Peter Drury was covering the game on Premier Sports and his commentary about Messi after his masterclass was spine-tingling.

As Messi picked up the Man of the Match award, Drury said: “It will come as little surprise to anyone who embraced this football match, that the Man of that Match, should be named Lionel Messi.

“His was a vintage display. In a team context, an individual who floated above it all. Very often without the ball, but especially with it. Goodness me, he must have a well upholstered mantlepiece.”

And as Messi lifted the trophy, Drury said: “Messi will get his hands on this most exclusive prizes. There’s only one of him. Cherish him, relish him while you’ve got him. Another Messi moment.”

Special commentary for a special player.

Messi hasn’t had his best season at Paris Saint-Germain, but he was on fire for his country on Wednesday evening.

Argentina are currently on an incredible run which has seen them go 33 games unbeaten.

Given their success in recent years, they are going to take some stopping at the World Cup in Qatar, which begins in November.
