Ahead of this weekend’s latest edition of El Clásico, a fresh look into the leading scorers in the history of Spanish football’s most famous fixture has on Friday been provided.
And, in truth, it should come as little surprise to learn of the two players boasting the most goals in fixtures between Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Leading the way at the very top of the list comes the former’s greatest-ever player, in the form of Lionel Messi.
Over the course of his storied career, the Argentine managed to find the net on 26 occasions against Barcelona’s arch rivals. 18 such goals came in fixtures played in La Liga.
And following Messi in 2nd on the list comes the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner’s greatest individual rival, in Cristiano Ronaldo.
Across his time in the Spanish capital, Real Madrid’s top-scorer of all time racked up 18 goals of his own in El Clásico.
It is now up to the current squads under the watch of Hansi Flick and Carlo Ancelotti to attempt to follow in the footsteps of those to have shone so brightly before them on Saturday night.
