Argentina will defend their world crown in New York/New Jersey against Spain after an eight-minute turnaround in Atlanta knocked out England in a bruising, low-key contest.
According to Superdeporte, Lionel Scaloni got his changes right and sent his side to chase parity. Thomas Tuchel instead protected the lead too early, dropping England deep and turning to defensive options Dan Burn, Ezri Konsa and O'Reilly.
Enzo levelled with a blistering strike from the edge of the box, then Lautaro converted a Lionel Messi cross to complete the comeback and spark bedlam in Atlanta. When Tuchel looked to restore ambition, Messi had already steered another turnaround for the ages.
Scaloni said he was almost lost for words, calling it a joy for the country and their people. He said the group keep surprising him and that they will give everything to win, while admitting it was hard to take in what the supporters had shown.
He summed up Argentina’s spirit by saying they are unique, driven by heart rather than arrogance, and that the fans carried them to victory. The shirt means giving everything until the end, he added, and his players have shown they feel it deeply.
