England’s Euro 2025 celebrations were dampened as they fell 2-1 to Brazil at the Etihad Stadium.
Bia Zaneratto and Dudinha gave the visitors a 2-0 lead inside 20 minutes, exploiting a makeshift backline missing key defenders. Debutant goalkeeper Khiara Keating had little chance with either goal.
The Lionesses were handed a lifeline when Brazil captain Angelina received a straight red for bringing down Ella Toone. Georgia Stanway converted the resulting penalty, but despite chances for Toone, Jess Carter, Russo, and late substitute Michelle Agyemang, the Lionesses could not find an equaliser.
Manager Sarina Wiegman will look to tighten the defence ahead of Tuesday’s friendly against Australia, but the team showed glimpses of promise despite the setback.
