The Lionesses celebrating their Euro 2025 triumph
The 2026 international calendar has just been handed a massive addition as the Football Association confirms that the England Women’s national team will make their debut at the stunning new Hill Dickinson Stadium this summer.
In what is being hailed as a landmark moment for the sport in the North West, the Lionesses will host Ukraine in their final FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 qualifier on Tuesday, 9 June 2026.
This fixture represents the first time any senior England side, men’s or women’s, will grace the turf of Everton’s new waterfront home since it opened its doors.
The decision to stage this high-stakes qualifier at the 52,888-capacity Hill Dickinson Stadium highlights the meteoric rise of the women’s game.
While the venue has already been confirmed as a host for UEFA EURO 2028 and the UK’s 2035 Women’s World Cup bid, seeing Sarina Wiegman’s side take to the pitch this June marks its arrival as a premier destination for international football.
For the Lionesses, the move to Liverpool is a deliberate effort to connect with a passionate North West fanbase.
Head coach Sarina Wiegman expressed her excitement about the venue, noting that the city’s deep-rooted football history makes it a “very special” location for such a decisive match.

This isn’t just a friendly; the clash with Ukraine is the final fixture in England’s qualification group for the 2027 World Cup in Brazil. And boss Sarina Wiegman warned England to not take qualification for granted earlier this year.
With the Lionesses currently leading the charge, the atmosphere at the Hill Dickinson Stadium is expected to be electric as the team looks to secure their flight to South America in style.
The fixture also carries emotional weight, with England captain Leah Williamson recently highlighting the resilience of the Ukrainian squad.
Playing the “home” leg in Liverpool, a city that famously hosted Eurovision on behalf of Ukraine, further strengthens the cultural ties between the two nations.
With the Lionesses regularly selling out major venues, tickets for this historic debut are expected to be in high demand. The FA has confirmed that ticket sales will follow a tiered rollout:
My England Football Priority: Friday 27 February 2026
General Sale: Thursday 5 March 2026
Prices are expected to remain accessible to encourage families and young fans to witness history.
For those unable to attend the 8pm kick-off in person, the match will be broadcast live, ensuring the whole country can watch the Lionesses attempt to close out their qualifying campaign at their new Merseyside home.
