Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez is eyeing a return to action for the Red Devils by late October or early November, according to journalist Gaston Edul.

He has been sidelined since February with a serious knee ligament injury, but is now stepping up his recovery.

Man United’s medical team will not rush Martinez back. They want the Argentina internationals to be fully fit and avoid setbacks.

Having conceded seven goals in their opening four Premier League games, Man United manager Ruben Amorim will be desperate to have his defensive leader back.

United left-back Luke Shaw has been forced to deputise at left centre-back in Martinez’s absence, but the backline has looked shaky without the latter’s aggression.

Martinez joined Manchester United from Ajax in 2022. Described as an ‘outstanding player’, he quickly became a fan favourite for his tough tackling and leadership.

Despite his worrying injury record, Man United consider Martinez essential and are ready to accelerate plans for a new contract.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano claims that United want to discuss a new deal with Martinez despite his current contract running until 2027, with an option to extend until 2028.

The 27-year-old’s return would not only solidify United’s defence but also serve as a boost for Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni, who is planning for the 2026 World Cup.

United view keeping Martinez fit as a priority for the club’s ambitions this season. His international team will also be watching keenly.

They secured only four points from four Premier League games. The Red Devils have also been eliminated from the League Cup.

Amorim, who is already under pressure at Man Utd, needs to turn things around or might be out of a job soon.
