Walsall visit Tranmere Rovers in League Two this afternoon seeking to stretch an unbeaten start to eight, their longest opening since 2020. They beat Port Vale 2-0 last weekend but have not won successive league games since December.

Summer arrival Tom Ince has two goals in seven League Two outings and could be the hosts’ danger man. He previously played alongside Walsall boss Lee Grant and assistant Richard Keogh at Derby County.

Lee Grant makes three changes from last weekend, with Simper, Dallas and Pressley in for Clarke, Evans and Sodje.

Alex Pattison has suffered a hamstring setback and is not due back until at least January, while Harry Williams remains a long-term Achilles absentee.

Walsall lost 6-1 at Stevenage in the EFL Trophy in midweek.
