Brighton’s FA Cup run ended with a flat 3-0 defeat at Liverpool, and the ratings were bleak. According to WeAreBrighton.com, Jan Paul van Hecke led the scores on 5.67 despite only 70 minutes as he eases back from a hamstring issue.
The visitors conceded soft goals and rarely looked like scoring. Curtis Jones was left untracked for the opener, the second came from a break down Ferdi Kadioglu’s side, then Mohamed Salah won a penalty for the third.
Jason Steele produced one excellent stop but could do little about the goals. Joel Veltman coped reasonably with Cody Gakpo, while Van Hecke was withdrawn to protect his hamstring and has been linked with a summer move to Anfield.
Lewis Dunk was steady and threatened from set pieces, creating Brighton’s best chance with a pinpoint ball for Diego Gomez. Gomez went through one-on-one but struck at Alisson’s legs.
Kadioglu endured a difficult afternoon, implicated in all three goals. Carlos Baleba was better than against Aston Villa, and Jack Hinshelwood missed a presentable chance with Yasin Ayari sidelined.
Seventeen-year-old Harry Howell struggled, Pascal Gross offered little beyond the penalty incident, and Charalampos Kostoulas worked hard without service. Kaoru Mitoma showed flashes, Georginio Rutter’s confidence looked low, and Yankuba Minteh’s early-season spark remained elusive.
Olivier Boscagli impressed in a late cameo. Mats Wieffer returned after seven weeks out with a minor toe injury and, notably, was used in midfield.
The ratings were compiled from Brighton fans’ scores submitted via social media.
