Following the midweek Merseyside derby victory, Liverpool arrived in the capital after Arsenal had dropped points against Everton. The Gunner’s 1-1 draw at Goodison a park came days after Liverpool had beaten their local rivals 1-0 at Anfield, therefore, a win at Craven Cottage would all but guarantee Arne Slot a Premier League title in his first season as the Reds head coach. Sadly for the travelling support, the result did not match the expectations.
The lineup and subsequent ratings are listed below.
The backup Irish stopper was very poor in the first half and culpable for a portion of that horrid opening 45 minutes.
In the second half, the academy graduate was better and kept his side at the races.
The England international was picked to add more on-ball capabilities, with the defensive limitations exposed.
After the intermission, the former academy graduate was tasked throughout the field without adding enough.
The Scotland international was at fault in the first half and could not recover
After the halftime break, the former Hull fullback was better going forward as he looked to make amends for a horrid first half.
The France international defender was off his game in a strange first half.
In the second half, the former RB Leipzig man was withdrawn as his team hunted goals.
The captain and leader of this team were at fault for one of the first-half goals conceded as he looked too relaxed and void of urgency.
After the restart, the former Celtic man was more commanding.
The Duch midfielder was weak and uninterested in the first half as he couldn’t get a grip on the game.
After the break, the former Ajax prodigy was moved around the pitch continually as the shape shifted without offering too much.
The Hungarian skipper was unable to show the power and hunger that often accompanies his name in a poor first half.
After the intermission, the former RB Leipzig man was tired and removed.
The Argentina World Cup winner was the man who scored the first goal with a tremendous effort and showed why he is the Premier League’s best midfielder.
In the second 45 minutes, the former Brighton man was not offered enough support by his uninspiring teammates.
The Portuguese striker was unable to improve upon his goal-scoring performance in midweek.
In the second half the former Wolves man was lackluster before leaving the field.
Cody Gakpo – 5.0
The Dutch forward started on the wing and looked to be too sporadic in his play.
In the second half the former PSV man was limited before leaving the field.
The Egyptian King was largely non-existent in a tough first half.
After the break, the record-breaking scorer was unable to make an impression as he was continually well-marshalled.
Harvey Elliott – 6.0 (on 55)
Came on to crash an attempt onto the bar.
Luis Díaz – 8.0 (on 55)
Came on to assist the Red’s second goal and show more quality.
Man of the match
Darwin Núñez – 5.0 (on 67)
Can on to try and add physicality.
Conor Bradley – 6:0 (on 67)
Came on to improve the outfield endeavour.
Federico Chiesa – 6.0 (on 82)
Came on to add a clinical edge.
Arne Slot – 6.0
The Dutch manager picked a team that was designed to overwhelm a team without much more to fight for this season. Unfortunately for the Anfield boss, his team was unable to carry out his wishes in a horrible first-half showing.
The substitutions were reactive and made the second half a better one.
