Liverpool have accepted a €75m bid from Bayern Munich for Luis Diaz, who asked to leave Anfield and is now set to join the German champions.

The Colombian winger, who is currently in Tokyo with Liverpool on their pre-season tour, will leave on Sunday or Monday to complete the formalities of his move.

Liverpool had long insisted Diaz was not for sale but reluctantly agreed to his request to go.

They had rejected an earlier bid of £58.5m from Bayern before accepting an improved offer of £65.5m that Liverpool believe represents market value.

Diaz, at 28, has entered the last two years of his contract and Liverpool failed in two attempts to commit him to an extended deal, with the forward’s wage demands more than they were willing to pay him.

He had first asked to leave last summer but Liverpool were determined to keep their squad together and Diaz played a pivotal part in winning their 20th league title, scoring 13 goals in the English top flight and a Champions League hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen.

Liverpool, who signed forward Hugo Ekitike for £69m and who had made an inquiry about the unsettled Alexander Isak, will not alter their recruitment plans when Diaz goes and feel they have strength in depth in attack.

But, after spending around £250m, Diaz’s departure will double the money they have brought in this summer and it will become the third biggest fee Liverpool have received for a player, after the sales of Philippe Coutinho and Luis Suarez to Barcelona.

Bayern, who had pursued Diaz all summer and been in persistent dialogue with Liverpool, have finally got their preferred replacement for Leroy Sane, who joined Galatasaray.
