Liverpool have reportedly agreed a deal with Feyenoord to hire Arne Slot as their new manager.

Jurgen Klopp will leave Anfield in the summer and talks have been ongoing between the Premier League giants and last year’s Eredivisie champions over Slot replacing the German.

Multiple reports on Friday night state that a compensation package has now been verbally agreed.

Slot, who has publicly stated his interest in becoming Liverpool boss, is now free to negotiate his terms with the club.

Liverpool are said to have seen an opening offer worth £7.7million rejected by Feyenoord before this breakthrough in talks.

The Reds were previously linked with former midfielder Xabi Alonso, who is currently leading Bayer Leverkusen through an unbeaten season having already won the Bundesliga title, but he will stay put in Germany. Sporting CP coach Ruben Amorim, a target for West Ham, and Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi were also touted for the job.

But Slot, 45, appears set to arrive at the end of a campaign which has seen him lift the Dutch Cup and likely finish second in the Eredivisie with Feyenoord.

“What I like a lot about him, if he is the one, is that he wants to take the job,” Klopp said. “He’s desperate, let’s go for it, excited.

“I like the way his team plays football. All the things I hear about him as a guy, good guy. Some people I know know him, I don’t know him yet. Some people tell me he is a really good guy. I like that a lot.

“Good coach, good guy... if he is the solution or the man, I am more than happy. It’s not up to me, but that all sounds really good to me.”
