Fulham defender Antonee Robinson has been voted the 2024 U.S. Soccer Male Player of the Year.
This is the first time Robinson has won the award, after playing 11 times for his country and recording four clean sheets in that time.
The 27-year-old also recorded an assist in the USA’s 1-0 win over Jamaica in the Concacaf Nations League quarter-finals, and becomes the first defender to earn this recognition since Oguchi Onyewu in 2006.
“It’s an incredible honour,” said Robinson after receiving the award during a television interview with former USA and Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard. “Representing our country isn’t something you do for individual accolades. It’s always about putting the team first and trying to do my best for the boys and for the country, so to be rewarded for that is an amazing feeling.
“I probably looked a little silly because I was shocked. I thought it was just a random interview with Tim about how the season was going, so when he told me I’d won I was just in disbelief because it was the last thing I expected.
“Obviously, Tim had an incredible career with the National Team and throughout his club football so it was a thrill to have that news delivered by him.”
Robinson has been linked with a move away from Fulham having registered seven assists so far this season for Marco Silva’s men and is the highest assisting defender in the Premier League.
Liverpool and Manchester United have both been linked with the American, with both clubs looking to strengthen their left side of defence.
