Liverpool and Newcastle United are among the clubs monitoring Sporting CP forward Luis Suárez, as reported by Correio da Manhã.
The 28 year old has emerged as one of the most productive forwards in Europe this season, prompting expectation that a move to the Premier League could materialise in the coming months.
Suárez’s output has been central to Sporting’s campaign. He has recorded 33 goals and seven assists in 42 appearances across all competitions, establishing himself as a key figure under Rui Borges.
His performances have included a standout display against Paris Saint Germain in January, where he scored twice, an outing that significantly increased his visibility among leading European clubs.
Sporting are understood to be in a strong contractual position. Suárez is tied to the club until 2030 and has an €80m release clause. The Portuguese side are expected to delay any negotiations until after the World Cup, where there is a belief his valuation could rise further.

Both Liverpool and Newcastle are said to be progressing their interest, with the report stating the clubs are “fighting tooth and nail” for the striker.
Suárez has acknowledged the possibility himself, admitting he could move at the end of the season, although Sporting’s preference remains to wait until after the international tournament.
Despite the growing attention, there are considerations around both price and track record. Correio da Manhã’s reporting has prompted some caution, with the outlet previously criticised for overstating transfer developments.
The financial aspect is also significant. An €80m fee would represent a major investment for either club, particularly given Suárez’s age profile.
There are also performance questions linked to his time in La Liga, where he scored eight goals in 37 appearances and five in 27. While his recent form in Portugal has been strong, including two seasons of 20 plus league goals, one of those campaigns came in La Liga 2.
Clubs in the Premier League are likely to weigh those factors carefully as part of their recruitment process.
From a Newcastle perspective, this situation feels aligned with the club’s current trajectory. There is a clear push towards adding proven attacking output, particularly as expectations rise both domestically and in Europe.
Suárez’s numbers stand out immediately. A forward delivering 33 goals in a season brings a level of reliability that Newcastle have at times lacked. There is a sense that he could complement the existing attacking options, offering a different profile through physical presence and penalty area instincts.
However, the reported €80m clause introduces hesitation. Newcastle’s recruitment under their current structure has typically balanced ambition with value, and committing that level of fee to a 28 year old would require strong internal conviction.
There is also the question of translation to the Premier League. Performances in Portugal do not always replicate at a higher intensity level, and Newcastle supporters have seen how adaptation can vary depending on the player.
That said, there is optimism around the club’s direction. If Newcastle believe Suárez fits their tactical evolution and can deliver consistently against top opposition, this is the type of signing that signals intent.
For supporters, the key point is trust in the process. If the data supports the move and the structure of the deal reflects long term planning, then Suárez could represent a significant addition rather than a risk.
