In a recent report, Fichajes claimed that Liverpool are in the race to land AZ Alkmaar midfielder Kees Smit. It has been mentioned that the Reds would have to rival Real Madrid and Arsenal in the race to sign the Dutch talent this summer.
Smit has enjoyed a decent campaign at the Dutch club as he has put in a series of impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. The 20-year-old has found the back of the net three times and earned five assists in 31 matches for AZ Alkmaar this season on all fronts.
The Dutch talent is currently among the best young midfielders in the Dutch Eredivisie. Hence, it is no surprise that Liverpool are hoping to get a deal done for him this summer.
His current contract at AZ Alkmaar will run out in the summer of 2028, which could make it difficult for the Reds to snap him up on the cheap at the end of this campaign.

Smit doesn’t mind working hard for his team defensively at the centre of the park. He can shoot the ball with power from long range and has got the vision to create some promising chances for his teammates in the final third.
The Dutch sensation is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet. He can even chip in by scoring and creating a few important goals for his team. Smit is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also operate as a defensive midfielder or play in the number ten position if needed. However, it remains to be seen whether he can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League.
We can expect Smit to add more quality and depth to Liverpool head coach Arne Slot’s midfield department in the long run. He is good enough to challenge for regular first-team football at Anfield.
At 20, the future looks quite bright for Smit as long as he continues to improve with each season. Therefore, Slot would be wise to get him on board next summer.
