Salah did not travel with Liverpool to face Inter Milan in midweek after he gave an explosive interview accusing the club of ‘throwing him under the bus’ for poor recent results.

He also suggested he might not return to Anfield after AFCON, saying he planned to ‘say goodbye’ to Liverpool’s fans at the Brighton match.

The Reds brought three points home from the San Siro in Salah’s absence, and it remains to be seen whether the player will come back into the fold this weekend.

Slot explained: “I will have a conversation with Mo this morning and the outcome determines how it looks tomorrow.

“What I need is a conversation with him and the next time I speak about Mo should be with him and not in [the press conference].

“There's not much more I can say. You can keep on trying by there is not much more to say about it. I speak to him today and the outcome determines how things will look tomorrow.”

Asked if he wanted Salah to stay at Liverpool, he was clear: “I see no reason why I don't want him to stay.”

He added the decision to leave Salah out against Inter was made jointly with Liverpool’s hierarchy.

“I think we decided as a club - and I was part of that - not to take him to Inter. I am always in contact with them, but lineup and squads, that is always left to me.”
