Arne Slot is relishing the “big responsibility” for Liverpool as they look to wrap up the Premier League title.

Arsenal’s draw with Crystal Palace in midweek means Liverpool need only a point against Tottenham on Sunday to be confirmed as champions, and cap a sensational first season in charge for Slot.

The Reds would have won the title on Wednesday had Arsenal lost to Crystal Palace, in a match the Liverpool squad watched together in case it did prove to be a crowning moment.

"It was different,” Slot said. “Normally when you watch a game of football, you are either alone or with family or friends. But we watched it all together.

"Before the game, I would have been surprised if the game ended in a draw. But during the game, I wasn't because Crystal Palace again showed what this league is all about.

"It was a very good performance from them as a team and there were a few very good individual performances as well."

Liverpool won the league in the 2019/20 season but had their celebrations limited by Covid, and so this is set to be a very different experience.

Anything other than a defeat against Spurs would seal the title with four games to spare, but Slot has insisted the celebrations cannot start just yet.

“It's a big responsibility because we are aware of the fact last time this club won the league it was Covid times,” Slot said.

“Everybody is looking forward to Sunday but there's still a job to be done which is one point, that's what we know and hopefully our fans know as well.”

Liverpool won the league with 99 points in 2020 but a much lower tally has been required this season.

Closest challengers Arsenal, who have had one eye on the Champions League in recent weeks, can finish on a maximum of 79 points.

Slot, though, played down the suggestion that this has been a weaker season in the Premier League.

“I can only tell you what I've experienced this season and can say it's never been as exciting for a top-five finish,” Slot said.

“In my opinion it's a really difficult league, there's not an easy game. But that tells you something about us.

“We're not the only team to find it hard to win a game by two or three goals. Maybe Liverpool and City and Arsenal aren't as good, or the other teams have got better.”
