Liverpool's midfield is arguably the weakest part of Andoni Iraola's squad this season.

The Reds made the decision to sell Curtis Jones without signing a replacement and, although Trey Nyoni and James McConnell have been promoted to the first team, the department now feels a little thin.

Wataru Endo doesn't seem to feature anywhere in the new manager's plans and a midfield addition seems almost certain either in the winter window or next summer.

There are several players the club are considering, but a new report from Germany has added another name to the list of stars on Liverpool's shortlist.

The Reds' search for midfield reinforcements has seen them linked with a variety of different players but one of the most interesting names thrown into the mix is Felix Nmecha.

The 25-year-old has become one of Borussia Dortmund's most important players in recent seasons, and now German outlet Fussball News have named Liverpool and Manchester City as two of the Premier League sides keeping tabs on the Germany international.

The report states that the Reds even had scouts in attendance for Dortmund's recent 3-0 victory over Paderborn, when Nmecha scored a brace.

Both clubs are eying up a potential deal for the winter window, with BVB likely to want €80-90 million (~£68.65-77.23m) for the midfielder.

Nmecha spent a number of years in Manchester City's academy before moving to Wolfsburg in 2021 and a return to his former side could be appealing, leaving Liverpool fighting an uphill battle.

According to the report, neither side has made official contact with Dortmund for the 25-year-old yet, but the interest is firm and things could heat up before the January window.

The 12-capped German could well be the man that Iraola's side turn to when they look to strengthen the midfield in the coming windows, meaning the 25-year-old's return to English football may not be too far away.
