Gareth Taylor highlights threat of Jess Park

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Liverpool boss Gareth Taylor highlighted the threat of Manchester United star Jess Park.

Taylor previously worked with Park as her head coach at Manchester City. Taylor lost his job at the current WSL league leaders last season, while Park joined United in the summer, in a switch which saw Grace Clinton head in the opposite direction.

Ahead of Sunday’s clash, speaking about the progress of his opponents, he said: “I think it is an example of someone who has been at the club for a while now in Marc (Skinner) and you start to see his own stamp on the team.

“I think they have had two good windows. I think Jess Park was a game-changer, a player who I worked closely with.

“She has transformed them in an attacking sense. She’s so bright in the way she plays between the lines and can really execute and hurt teams a lot.

“They have also had a really good window in this one as well. So I think Marc would have been crying out for some support for the squad as they were challenging on all fronts and doing really well to qualify in the Champions League and get to a League Cup final.

“They’ve signed the likes of (Lea) Schuller and Ellen Wangerheim, two really good attacking players. So to see him put a real stamp on his team.”

Liverpool vs Manchester United injury news

Liverpool striker Beata Olsson is in contention to return, after not playing any football since Chelsea’s 9-1 League Cup victory over the Reds last month.

New signing Anna Josendal is still “further away” from making her debut, according to Taylor.

For Manchester United, both Leah Galton and Ella Toone are still out of action, but Gabby George and Fridolina Rolfo could make their returns. –

Liverpool look to build on first WSL win

Taylor’s side will look to build on their first WSL win of the season last weekend against Tottenham.

Liverpool are locked in the WSL relegation battle, with only two points separating the Reds in 12th from Leicester City in ninth.

The Reds are hoping their January business will kick them on in the same way as Manchester United.

Liverpool have signed Denise O’Sullivan, Aurellie Csillag, Anna Josendal, Alice Bergstrom, as well as both Jennifer Falk and Martha Thomas on loan.

The Reds have a difficult month ahead, which also includes WSL clashes with Aston Villa and Chelsea, as well as a fifth-round FA Cup tie with Merseyside rivals Everton.
