Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has revealed that Jeremie Frimpong was withdrawn due to an injury concern in the final match of their pre-season tour.
The Reds suffered their first defeat under their new Spanish boss, concluding their US tour with a 4-2 loss to Leeds United.
Frimpong was withdrawn late on in the defeat in discomfort. The right-back missed 20 matches through injury in his debut campaign with the Reds last season.
With defenders Conor Bradley, Joe Gomez, Giovanni Leoni and Jeremy Jacquet all already sidelined, Iraola is hopeful that Frimpong will not be joining the injury list.
“Jeremie asked for the sub,” revealed the Liverpool boss. “I don’t think it’s an injury.
“It was just some overload and I hope he’s not injured in that way. I don’t think we’ve lost anyone.”
The match also saw the return of a number of key players for the Reds. Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak and Ryan Gravenberch all featured for the first time in pre-season, and under their new manager.
“I think they did really good,” said Iraola on the trio. “They played their first 45 minutes.
“Obviously Florian and Alex, because they were playing in the first half, they had an easier game or a better game. Ryan, it was costly for him.”
