Liverpool manager Arne Slot has predicted a ‘harder than before’ Premier League season in 2025/26.
Slot’s side begin their defence of the Premier League title at home to Bournemouth tomorrow evening. The Reds finished 10 points clear at the top of the division last season but Slot is anticipating a much closer battle this time around.
Liverpool have not won back-to-back league titles since 1984 and Slot has outlined the challenge his side faces. Speaking at his pre-match press conference, the Dutchman said a mix of change at Anfield and strong opposition will lead to a difficult campaign.
“The main reason that is so difficult is because there are so many competitors who can win the league. It’s unbelievable if you are able to do it in this league,” Slot said about winning successive Premier League titles.
“This year will be even harder than before. Every season and pre-season has its challenges. We have lost many starters. It is not always yourself but the teams you face.
“We start with Bournemouth, probably the most intense team in the league last season, in running and playing style. Afterwards it’s Newcastle and Arsenal.
“We have lost five to six players who played quite a lot of minutes last season, and brought in four, so it’s normal there is adaptation.”
