Three days after their league defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers, Liverpool claimed a 3-1 victory over Wolves in the fifth round of the FA Cup at Molineux on Friday.
The visitors could’ve taken the lead inside the opening sixth minute of the game after Cody Gakpo met Ryan Gravenberch’s cross, but the Dutchman’s header struck the post.
Moments later, Rio Ngumoha was found by Alexis Mac Allister, who then skipped past Jackson Tchatchoua before picking out the bottom corner, but Sam Johnstone was there to deny the youngster.
No side created a clear-cut chance again, and both sides went into the break goalless.
In the 51st minute, Andy Robertson broke the deadlock after Mohamed Salah and Curtis Jones teed up to find him on the break, and the Scot unleashed a belter into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.
Two minutes later, Salah doubled the Reds’ advantage after he was found at the back post by Robertson, who then finished into the roof of the net.
In the 74th minute, Jones got the visitors’ third after Gravenberch flicked the ball into his path and the Englishman found the bottom corner with a curler.
Moments later, Jeremie Frimpong could’ve increased the margin after he was found by Gakpo on the break, but the Dutchman’s effort was palmed away by Johnstone.
On the stroke of full-time, Hwang Hee-Chan pulled one back for Wolves after he latched onto Johnstone’s long ball, wriggling past Dominik Szoboszlai and Robertson before finding the bottom corner.
The Reds have now progressed to the quarterfinals of the FA Cup and will find out their opponents in Monday’s draw.
