This summer, it was clear to see that Andoni Iraola wanted to make several changes to his Liverpool ranks.

The Spaniard probably came to Anfield thinking that it would be an upgrade from Bournemouth and, while size-wise, it definitely was, player-wise, he likely felt a bit let down.

Up until the Reds' 2-0 win against Ipswich on Friday evening, Liverpool had only managed to muster up two Premier League draws.

If they'd have faced some of the big six, those results would have probably been acceptable but, the fact that they drew against Newcastle and Nottingham Forest was shocking.

Indeed, Liverpool may not have had the best transfer window of all time but, compared to Matthias Jaissle's men, they had an exceptional one.

So, with this in mind, it was quite annoying for fans to see how far their team had fallen behind but, luckily for them, Friday's game proved that the Reds have a massive chance to capitalise on a mistake from one of their rivals.

Ronald Araujo could become the saviour of Liverpool's defence

Liverpool signed a handful of players this summer.

Of the lot, Ronald Araujo and Bradley Barcola were easily the most well known and a few years ago, signing Araujo would have been a massive deal.

Recently, however, the defender hasn't been in the best run of form which is probably one of the main reasons why Barcelona loaned their captain out to Liverpool in the first place.

Fans had mixed opinions about his arrival but, the fact that they didn't have an obligation to buy included in the deal eased their minds a bit.

Before Friday, he'd only made a couple of cameos with Iraola trying to stick with Jeremie Frimpong as his right-back but, it's clear that the Dutchman is not Liverpool's answer to their full-back problem.

This led to Araujo getting a start and, while fans were sceptical about how he'd perform, it's fair to say that they were pleasantly surprised.

The fact that Araujo can play as a centre-back or a right-back is one of his main selling points.

He may be a tad older than some of the Reds' current crop of players but, his experience is unmatched.

As per Sofascore, it was clear that he fit right into Liverpool's set up as, in the 90 minutes he played, the defender had 63 touches of the ball and maintained a pass accuracy of 84 per cent.

Aruajo also successfully completed 100 per cent of the dribbles that he attempted throughout the clash.

He did lose possession of the ball 15 times but, when you're on the ball as much as he is, you're expected to lose it a lot more.

Defensively, the Uruguayan was also extremely solid as he won 75 per cent of the ground duels he attempted and 100 per cent of the aerial duels he tried.

At the moment, €55 million (£47.3 million) may seem a tad steep for someone who will be 28 years old by next summer but, if he keeps performing to this standard, he'd be more than worth Liverpool investing in.

That is, even if they do end up bringing Jarell Quansah back to Anfield next summer.
