Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has weighed in on the growing uncertainty surrounding Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future at the club.

With the England international’s contract set to expire soon and Real Madrid confident of securing his signature, speculation has been increasing week by week.

While key figures like Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah have recently signed new contracts with Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold has yet to do the same.

Talks over an extension have stalled, and the possibility of a free transfer to Spain has become more likely as time passes.

As such, Real Madrid are believed to be in advanced discussions and have already put a five-year offer on the table, which would tie him to the club until 2030.

Van Dijk backs Alexander-Arnold amid uncertainty

Speaking after Liverpool’s win over Leicester, Van Dijk addressed the situation with caution and respect.

“There’s a lot of noise around him,” Van Dijk said as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

“Everyone has their say about his form, but he has been vital for us all season. We need the best version of Trent for the remainder of the campaign. Whatever happens with his future will happen.”

The Dutch defender did not give away any hint of what Alexander-Arnold might choose, but he did acknowledge the legacy the full-back has already built at Liverpool.

“There are a lot of good things he will always be remembered for if he does end up leaving,” he added, suggesting that the squad is already preparing for the possibility of his departure.

Real Madrid confident of securing summer move

According to reports, Real Madrid are increasingly optimistic about bringing Alexander-Arnold to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

With talks said to be progressing smoothly and the player not leaning towards a renewal at Anfield, Madrid believe they are closing in on another world-class signing—this time without paying a transfer fee.

The potential move is reminiscent of past deals where Real Madrid capitalised on contract situations to sign top talent without breaking the bank.

If completed, Alexander-Arnold would follow in the footsteps of other major signings brought in under similar circumstances.
