Let’s be honest, the Reds haven’t done anywhere near enough in the transfer market this summer. Having brought in Andoni Iraola, the powers that be must surely be aware of the fact that his playing style asks a lot of his players, so numbers are important. Perhaps they would point to the arrival of Jérémy Jacquet as a new body through the door, but he was signed on a pre-contract deal in February.
Otherwise, it is only Victor Muñoz that we’ve signed this summer, which is leaving many supporters a little worried. Now, links have emerged to a young winger, but who is he?

Liverpool need to reshape their attacking options in the wake of Mohamed Salah’s departure, with the links to Bradley Barcola having been there all summer. When reports broke of the club getting close to signing a winger from Paris Saint-Germain, the assumption from many was that that was the Barcola deal nearing its conclusion. Instead, it appears that the Reds are interested in signing Ibrahim Mbaye, who had previously been linked with a move to Bayer Leverkusen.

With the Germans apparently turning their attention to Moussa Diaby, it means that Liverpool are seemingly on their own in the pursuit of one of the most talented young wingers in Europe. At only 18 years of age, it is clear that he isn’t going to be arriving at Anfield to immediately replace the Egyptian King. That being said, he is a talented player who has been able to rack up first-team appearances for the two-time European champions, which isn’t exactly easy to do when you look at the talent in their squad.
A reported fee of €40 million is a little rich for an 18-year-old, but Mbaye does not lack confidence and would be something of a snip when you consider the fees that attack-minded midfielders have been going for this summer. It isn’t a move that is guaranteed to bring success, but given the desperate need for Liverpool to give Iraola players to work with, it could well ensure we at least have some warm bodies for him to turn to when his first-choice players start to tire.
