The 2026/27 season has been a very difficult one for FC Barcelona defender Alejandro Balde as he has struggled for prominence in the team.

The 22-year-old La Masia graduate is no longer the first-choice starter at left-back, with Hansi Flick preferring fellow academy product Xavi Espart ahead of him.

Summer signing Joao Cancelo is also ahead of Balde, which has led to the homegrown defender making only one appearance so far for Barça this season – a 12-minute cameo against Racing Santander.

There were strong speculations about a possible exit in the summer, but the player decided to stay and fight for his place.

However, with his situation not improving, talks of a departure in the upcoming January transfer window are starting to do the rounds.

Liverpool, Chelsea and PSG want Balde

Now, as reported by Diario AS, Premier League giants Liverpool have shown a strong interest in signing Balde in the winter window.

In addition to the Reds, their English rivals Chelsea are also understood to be monitoring the Barcelona left-back’s situation.

Moreover, reigning European champions PSG, who already signed Ferran Torres from Barça in the summer, have also set their sights on Balde.

As per the report, Luis Enrique’s side are said to be considering making an offer of around €40 million for the 22-year-old defender.

AC Milan, too, are in the fray as a potential suitor for Balde, if he decides to move on from his boyhood club midway through the season.

Furthermore, as per the report, Balde is now considering the possibility of leaving Barcelona in January, given that he has fallen well down the pecking order under Flick.

The 22-year-old left-back’s main desire remains to succeed with the La Liga champions but given his current situation, the possibility of an exit looms large.

As such, he will assess his options and see whether his situation improves in the weeks to come. If there is no change, the La Masia talent may well think of moving on from the Spotify Camp Nou.

A move to Liverpool could appeal to Balde, as he would reunite with former teammate Ronald Araujo, currently on loan at Anfield, while playing under a highly promising Spanish manager in Andoni Iraola.

While a transfer to PSG, where he would reunite with Luis Enrique and Ferran Torres, would also be appealing, it might not lead to an improvement in his game-time, given that they already have Nuno Mendes, Lucas Hernandez, and Lucas Digne as options.
