Liverpool have officially appointed Andoni Iraola as their new manager, with the Spaniard taking over at Anfield following the departure of Arne Slot.

The 43-year-old has signed a deal running until 2028 and arrives on Merseyside after an outstanding spell with Bournemouth. During his three seasons on the south coast, Iraola transformed the Cherries into one of the Premier League’s most exciting sides, culminating in a historic sixth-place finish last season and qualification for the Europa League for the first time in the club’s history.

His success naturally attracted interest from across Europe. Crystal Palace and Bayer Leverkusen were both linked with the highly-rated coach, but Liverpool moved quickly after deciding to part ways with Slot following a disappointing campaign.

The Reds finished fifth in the Premier League and failed to make a serious impact in the domestic cups or Europe, leading the club to seek a fresh direction.

Iraola built a reputation for aggressive pressing, high-intensity football and developing players during his time at Bournemouth, qualities that Liverpool's hierarchy believe make him an ideal fit for the club’s long-term ambitions.

The former Athletic Bilbao defender previously impressed at Rayo Vallecano before making the move to England in 2023. Now, he faces the biggest challenge of his managerial career as he steps into one of football’s most demanding jobs.
