Liverpool have confirmed Ibrahima Konaté will leave at the end of his contract on 30 June, ending five seasons with the club. The confirmation came on Sunday, a day after the announcement of head coach Arne Slot’s departure, and the France defender posted a farewell message on social media.
Signed from RB Leipzig in summer 2021, Konaté made 183 appearances and scored seven goals for the Merseyside side. He is 27 and has 27 caps for France.
His Anfield spell brought the Premier League title in 2025, the FA Cup in 2022, two League Cups in 2022 and 2024, and the Community Shield at the start of the 2022-23 season.
In his message, he said he leaves with lifelong memories and that representing Liverpool was an honour. He reflected on highs and lows, trophies, challenges, lasting friendships and painful moments, adding that none hurt more than the loss of team-mate Diogo Jota in a road accident last summer.
His exit is official despite his representatives and Liverpool having reached an agreement in principle around a five-year deal a month ago. Talks shifted in recent weeks amid internal disagreements during a chaotic end to the season, and he said he was deeply saddened not to have been able to say goodbye at the final match. He is attracting interest from several clubs, including Real Madrid, Bayern and Chelsea.
