Liverpool have moved quickly to replace goalkeeping coach Xavi Valero

Andoni Iraola’s plans at Liverpool are continuing to take shape with the appointment of a new first-team goalkeeping coach.

As part of Iraola’s move from Bournemouth, he has brought Tommy Elphick, Shaun Cooper and Pablo de la Torre along with him to make up a new-look Liverpool backroom staff.

Meanwhile, analyst Tom Webber has also made the switch to Merseyside from the South Coast.

Those arrivals were confirmed at the start of July and the Reds have since another new addition in the form of Alejandro Rosalen as the goalkeeping coach, replacing Xavi Valero after he left at the end of the 2025-26 season.

A statement reads: "Alejandro Rosalen has been appointed as Liverpool’s new first-team goalkeeping coach.

"Rosalen arrives on Merseyside with a wealth of experience as a goalkeeper coach.

"His most recent position was at Serie A side Napoli, from 2021 to this summer. While there, Rosalen contributed to Napoli lifting the Scudetto on two occasions (2022-23 and 2024-25).

"He had previously spent eight years with Fiorentina in Italy, a period that followed a single season at Hungarian outfit Videoton.

"Rosalen’s coaching career had begun in Valencia’s academy, where he stayed for eight years."

Rosalen will work closely with Alisson Becker, Giorgi Mamardashvili and Freddie Woodman, and Liverpool will hope the Spaniard’s appointment leads to a reduction of goals conceded across all competitions next season.

Alisson managed just 13 clean sheets from 35 appearances during the 2025-26 campaign, with Mamardashvili keeping three in 20 outings - though one of which was in the Champions League when Liverpool beat Real Madrid in the league phase.

Due to the World Cup, Alisson - who helped Brazil reach the last-16 - will not link up with the squad in the USA until the latter part of the summer tour.
