Liverpool defender may leave in January, Euro giants want him | OneFootball

Liverpool were linked with a lot of players throughout the summer transfer window.

Four new additions were made with fans expecting there to be a lot more action in and out of L4.

In the end, that didn't happen and now, the Reds have got what looks to be a decent squad at their disposal.

Of course, a lot of their depth is made up of youngsters who are only just being given their first chance thanks to Andoni Iraola's appointment but, if even one or two of these players meet their potential, Liverpool will be in the money.

However, with this, obviously comes a massive risk that the Reds won't have enough experience among their ranks to challenge for silverware.

But, if they want to find their next academy graduate to promote, this is clearly the best way for them to do that, especially if clubs are still vying for their transfers.

Celtic 'like' Luke Chambers and could try and sign him in January

Luke Chambers is one of the many youngsters that Iraola gave a chance to in pre-season.

The defender joined back up with the Reds after spending the second half of the 2025-26 campaign on loan to Charlton Athletic.

During his time in the Championship, the defender played as a left-back and a left-midfielder but, thanks to his defensive capabilities and Liverpool's centre-back crisis, Iraola chose to use him as a centre-back.

This versatility is likely one of the main reasons why the Englishman was kept around with his homegrown status also a massive bonus.

Obviously, he's just seen as a back-up at the moment but, if he gets given a chance and manages to impress, he could forge himself a career at Anfield.

However, if that doesn't work out, it seems like the 22-year-old has another option on the table.

Obviously, with Virgil van Dijk, Jeremy Jacquet, Ronald Araujo and Giovanni Leoni among their ranks at the moment, Chambers is the Reds' fifth-choice centre-back.

At left-back, Liverpool have also have Milos Kerkez and Kostas Tsimikas so, for this season at least, his pathway to the first-team looks quite blocked.

But, with Tsimikas and Van Dijk's contracts expiring at the end of the current season, there could definitely be a chance for him to make his case at the end of the term.

For now, he's obviously just going to have to impress his manager in training and will have to try his best to make sure that, in every game he gets, he plays to the best standards possible.

And, if he does end up moving in January, he just needs to fine-tune his skills and then ensure that he's ready to battle for a regular role among Liverpool's squad.

So, whether Chambers ends up staying at Anfield and fights for his place or joins Champions League winners, Celtic, both moves could easily allow him to become an important player for the Reds in the future.
