Liverpool eyeing move for Arne Slot favourite who Arsenal also want | OneFootball

Arne Slot's time as Liverpool manager came to a bit of an abrupt end.

Just a season after winning the Premier League title, the Dutchman was relieved of his duties due to the poor performances that his men were putting in.

The Reds did a terrible job of trying to defend their top flight title as they only finished fifth in the league.

And, to make things worse, they only got to the round of 16 in the Champions League.

All of these things combined together to make fans believe that another massive rebuild was on its way to Anfield.

Four players ended up getting brought in during the summer but, since there are still a couple of glaring problems among their ranks, some more transfers are needed.

Of course, the January transfer window is still quite a few months away yet but, that hasn't stopped the rumour mill from turning.

Givairo Read is being monitored by Liverpool again

When Trent Alexander-Arnold left Liverpool last summer, everyone knew that he would be difficult to replace.

The right-back was one of the Reds' most creative players and, even though Jeremie Frimpong was brought in to replace him, he has not managed to meet expectations.

This led to Liverpool signing Ronald Araujo on loan in the 2026-27 summer transfer window with a €55 million option to buy and, while he's been incredible so far, the €55 million option to buy still feels a bit steep.

Indeed, without the Uruguayan, the Reds would be in a much worse position than they currently find themselves but, since he's going to be 28 years old by June 2027, he's a tad older than Liverpool's usual targets.

So, this has forced the rumour mill to start turning about other potential right-backs that Liverpool could explore and, thanks to an update from Ekrem Konur, one of the Reds' previous targets seems to have re-entered the frame.

Givairo Read would be a solid acquisition for Liverpool in the future

Depending on how good Conor Bradley is upon his return from injury, Liverpool's right-back could quickly become another massive issue for them in the future.

At the moment, with Joe Gomez, Frimpong and Araujo all available, they're fairly well covered at right-back but, if another injury crisis makes its way over to L4, they could be in some serious trouble.

And, if Liverpool don't end up activating their option to buy on Araujo, their main right-back for the 2026-27 season will be taken away from them.

Read has only ever played in the Eredivisie with Slot being the manager to hand him his debut for Feyenoord.

Not only did he quickly become one of the Dutchman's favourite players but, he also proved how good he is.

So far this season, the defender has featured in eight games across all competitions and he already has five assists to his name which, for a 20-year-old is very impressive.

Obviously, a deal for the right-back wouldn't be cheap but, if Liverpool think he's the next Alexander-Arnold, he'll be worth every penny.
