Liverpool have looked electrifying on the attack this season, scoring 20 goals in their first eight games in all competitions under Arne Slot.
Despite this red hot start, the future of the Reds’ attack remains uncertain, and talisman Mohamed Salah will leave Anfield at the end of the season if he does not sign a new contract with the club.
There has been a great deal of public speculation surrounding Salah’s contract and the Egyptian King’s agent has spoken out on the matter, as well as Salah himself who admitted his future was not certain after Liverpool beat Manchester United.
Although the priority will likely be getting Salah, who has five goals and four assists this season, to sign a new contract, Liverpool will need to start assessing alternatives to their talisman before time runs out.
One long-term target the Reds have been monitoring to boost their attack is Salah’s countryman Omar Marmoush, who currently plays for Eintracht Frankfurt.
Jacque Talbot, writing for Football Transfers, has exclusively revealed that West Ham United are now eyeing a move for the 25-year-old next summer.
Marmoush can play right across the front-three but is most often deployed through the middle and is currently leading the goal scorers table in the Bundesliga, ahead of Harry Kane, with six goals in just five games.
The 32-capped Egyptian is valued at €17.9 million by Football Transfers but Nottingham Forest saw a €30 million offer turned down this summer and it may take upwards of that fee to convince Frankfurt to let their man go.
Although Salah is out of contract at the end of this season, Liverpool do still have a number of good attacking options at the club.
Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo are both performing to a very high level under Arne Slot and Federico Chiesa still has a lot to prove in this Liverpool side.
Through the middle Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota are competing for minutes and, whilst both have had stand-out moments, the pair have left fans frustrated at times this season.
Marmoush could be a useful addition at Anfield but if Salah isn’t tied down to a new contract, then Frankfurt will know Liverpool are desperate for attacking reinforcements and may be able to force the Reds to pay over the odds for the attacker.
West Ham’s interest in the 25-year-old further muddies the water for Liverpool, who will be hoping to avoid a drawn-out public transfer saga.
