Here’s our recap of all the Liverpool news from Saturday, August 17th 2024. The Reds beat Ipswich Town in their Premier League opener.
Liverpool opened their Premier League campaign - and the Arne Slot era - at Portman Road on Saturday. The Reds endured a difficult first half against the newly promoted side but did turn things around.
The second half saw a wonderful change in control, with Liverpool dominating throughout. It led to Diogo Jota grabbing the breakthrough on the hour mark, getting on the end of Mohamed Salah's pass.
Salah then scored himself, tucking home from close range. With that, Liverpool are off to a positive start under Slot.

Mohamed Salah scored a record-breaking goal on Saturday as Liverpool beat Ipswich Town in the Premier League.
Mohamed Salah went into Liverpool's Premier League opener against Ipswich Town knowing he was the joint-record holder for goals on the first day of the season. The Reds's star had eight to his name - level with Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard.
On 65, minutes, though, Salah moved clear on his own. The Egyptian took advantage of Dominik Szoboszlai forcing the ball into the box to slot home, putting the Reds 2-0 up and breaking the opening-day record.

One former Jurgen Klopp favourite at Liverpool set a new Premier League record today. Mohamed Salah wasn’t the only one rewriting the history books.
James Milner set a new Premier League record on Saturday as he took to the pitch against Everton at Goodison Park. The former Liverpool midfielder (and left-back, actually) became the first player to feature in 23 Premier League seasons.
No one has done it before and honestly, it might be a while before anyone matches that.
Milner made his debut all the way back in late 2002, coming on as a substitute for Leeds United against West Ham United. A little over a month later, he was scoring for his boyhood club, setting a new record as the youngest-ever Premier League goalscorer in the process (a record he held for two years).

Liverpool ace Harvey Elliott has revealed his favourite position and where he would love to play under new head coach Arne Slot during the 2024/25 season.
Elliott enjoyed his most fruitful campaign in a Liverpool shirt during Jurgen Klopp's final term in charge, making 53 appearances in all competitions and providing four goals and 11 assists.
The 21-year-old proved an integral member of Klopp's squad either from the start or the bench and was largely utilised as part of a central midfield three.

Arne Slot enacted a change from the very start of his first training session at Liverpool. The new head coach didn’t waste any time.
Arne Slot had Liverpool players walking into change from the very start of his first training session, per The Times. The Dutchman took over from Jurgen Klopp this summer and immediately sought to enact his ideas on the team.
Slot has Liverpool's player training from 9:15 am - an earlier starting point than they had under Klopp. The report mentioned how the head coach is a 'workaholic' and quite plainly wants that to rub off on the team.
