According to reports, one Liverpool transfer is ‘practically a done deal’, while they have submitted an ‘offer’ for Mohamed Salah’s ‘heir’.

The Premier League giants were expected to dominate after spending over £400m on a significant squad overhaul in the summer, but their results and performances have fallen off a cliff.

In the summer, the Reds broke the British transfer record twice to sign Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, while they also landed Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and Giovanni Leoni for significant fees.

Despite this, Liverpool looks a shadow of the side that won the Premier League last season as they appear to have made too many changes in a single window, with the lack of cohesion in Arne Slots squad impacting their performances.

Most of their new signings and key players have struggled, with it clear that they need to make significant changes to bounce back in the coming months.

They could also re-enter the transfer market to make further signings, with their priority to sign a new centre-back.

Liverpool desperately need to sign a new centre-back or two as Virgil van Dijk’s form has dipped and needs to be replaced in the long term, while Ibrahima Konate has been poor and is in the final year of his contract.

The Reds have been punished for not signing Marc Guehi in the summer and it has been suggested that they could land him in January for a cut-price fee before his contract expires in the summer.

Guehi’s collapsed deadline day move to Liverpool opened the door for a European giant to beat the Premier League club to his signature, but a new report from Spanish outlet Fichajes claims he still favours Slot’s side and their ‘first 2026 signing’ is ‘practically done’.

The report claims: ‘His move to Liverpool as a free agent is practically a done deal. After several months of negotiations, the agreement appears to be almost finalised.’

Another priority for Liverpool is to sign a long-term replacement for Salah, with Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise and AFC Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo mentioned as options.

A different report from Fichajes says Liverpool have ‘offered’ 200 million euros (£176m) to Bayern Munich for Olise, who is under contract until 2029 and could cost a huge fee.

The report explains:

‘Liverpool are confident that the leading role they are offering him, coupled with the opportunity to spearhead a rebuilding project, could prove attractive to the French player. ‘Within the English club, Michael Olise ‘s maturity despite his youth is also highlighted. They believe he has the personality to shoulder the responsibility of replacing Salah, a task that is not easy for any footballer.’
