Federico Chiesa Linked with Shock Move Away from Liverpool

Summer decisions loom for Chiesa and Liverpool

Federico Chiesa arrived at Liverpool with expectation and intrigue. A low-risk deal at £10 million, potentially rising to £12.5 million, was seen as astute business. But despite flashes of his ability, a long-term future at Anfield now looks uncertain.

As reported by aSpor, Turkish giants Fenerbahçe, led by Jose Mourinho, have joined a growing list of clubs targeting the Italian forward. “Mourinho has urged Fenerbahçe to recruit Chiesa this summer,” the outlet claims, citing the Portuguese manager’s desire to improve his attacking width.

Chiesa has managed two goals and two assists in just 387 minutes of football, contributing directly to a goal every 97 minutes. Yet game time has been limited and his role under Arne Slot remains undefined.

Competition intensifies for versatile forward

aSpor report that Mourinho views Chiesa as “the ideal man” for his Fenerbahçe project. The 27-year-old can operate on either wing or centrally, a trait that makes him appealing to coaches who value tactical flexibility. With Fenerbahçe still battling for the Super Lig title, Mourinho’s ambitions are clear.

Three unnamed Premier League clubs are also monitoring Chiesa’s situation. While Liverpool resisted all January interest, the summer window presents a different picture, especially with squad reshaping already in motion.

Injury setbacks hinder Anfield rhythm

Chiesa’s struggle for rhythm isn’t just down to selection. A muscle injury kept him out of action for 14 matches between September and December. That absence impacted his momentum, just as he was beginning to build chemistry with the squad.

Still, his efficiency in limited minutes is notable. Few players outside the regular starting XI can boast a goal contribution every 97 minutes in a league of this intensity.

Decision time for Slot and Edwards

The final call now rests with Arne Slot and Michael Edwards. Is Chiesa seen as a long-term asset or an opportunity to recoup value for summer reinvestment?

Liverpool’s forward line may yet see further change, and Chiesa’s fate could be part of a wider strategic shift.

Our View – Anfield Index Analysis

On the one hand, Federico Chiesa hasn’t had the regular minutes to fully showcase his best. But when he has played, he’s been sharp, creative and direct. A goal or assist every 97 minutes is the kind of output that usually forces a manager’s hand.

On the other hand, Liverpool aren’t short on wide attacking options—especially with Luis Díaz, Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota all capable of playing across the front line. If Arne Slot doesn’t see Chiesa as part of his core group, then a summer sale makes some sense, particularly if it frees up space for a more dynamic, long-term fit.

But a move to Fenerbahçe under Jose Mourinho? That’s the unexpected twist. Mourinho knows how to get the best out of players who feel they have a point to prove, and if Chiesa wants minutes, trophies, and a starring role, Turkey could tempt.

Still, from a fan’s point of view, it feels like unfinished business. Chiesa in full flow in a red shirt is a sight we’ve only glimpsed. Letting him leave now could be a decision the club comes to regret—especially if he lights it up under Mourinho in Europe next season.
