Liverpool have spent around £290m already in the current transfer window.

Sporting director Richard Hughes has overseen incoming deals for Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Giorgi Mamardashvili and Giovanni Leoni and there promises to be more signings in store.

Liverpool would quite like to add Alexander Isak to the squad as a new No9 before the window closes - and there could also be movement for a senior centre-back option in the shape of Marc Guehi.

Those two deals could take the Anfield club’s spending to around £450m - a gigantic total that needs to be offset through departures.

Elliott comes to an agreement with Leipzig

The Reds have managed to get rid of Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Jarell Quansah, Ben Doak, Caoimhin Kelleher, Tyler Morton, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Nat Phillips but there are other players at risk.

Harvey Elliott is chief among them with the England under-21 international set for a severely restricted role if he stays on Merseyside.

Elliott, 22, is under contract until 2027 and the time will soon come for Hughes and Arne Slot to make a crucial decision.

That’s because Empire of the Kop is claiming that RB Leipzig are in the process of formalising an offer for Elliott - with their initial bid believed to be in the region of £25.9m.

Elliott valued around £34.5m by Liverpool

Whether that’s enough for Liverpool to do a deal remains to be seen - with the report suggesting the club would like an overall total closer to £34.5m before agreeing to a sale.

However it also adds that Elliott has AGREED to leave Anfield - understanding that his minutes will be reduced owing to the presence of Wirtz, Dominik Szoboszlai and Mo Salah.

The playmaker has signed off on a four-year contract with the Bundesliga giants - who will increase his pay from £2m per annum to between €3m and €4m.

Elliott keen on Leipzig move

“RB Leipzig are now preparing to submit an offer in the region of €30m (£25.9m) for Elliott, who Liverpool value at €40m (£34.5m), with that disparity potentially being bridged through structured payments and add-ons,” the report reads.

“The Bundesliga side have reached an advanced stage in negotiations over personal terms with the 22-year-old, and a verbal agreement is already in place, with the discussion now centred about a transfer fee.

“The player is understood to be keen on the move, which’d offer him a greater chance of regular game-time, and his agents are working on a four-year deal which’d earn him an annual salary of between €3m and €4m (£2.6m-£3.4m), a notable increase on his current wage of just over £2m per year.”

Elliott joined Liverpool back in 2019 from Fulham - winning two Premier League titles under Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot.

His departure could leave yet another hole in the Liverpool attack - with the Reds heading into the rest of the season a little light on numbers.
