Liverpool are pushing on with their plans to sign a new forward.

Bradley Barcola is the latest name in the frame with Paris Saint-Germain asking for £145m. The France international is under contract until 2028 and has made it clear he will not sign a new deal.

Accordingly PSG have been pushed towards doing a deal - although they are holding out for a blockbuster fee.

Richard Hughes has got other irons in the fire however. Ever since missing out on Yan Diomande - with the Ivorian now bound for Real Madrid - the Merseysiders have had to look at other options.

Matias Fernandez-Pardo wants Lille exit

And it’s been reported that alongside Barcola others such as Matias Fernandez-Pardo, Yankuba Minteh and Said El Mala are under consideration.

Fernandez-Pardo in particular is an intriguing name in the frame - scoring eight Ligue 1 goals and registering five assists for Lille in Ligue 1 last season.

He joined from Gent in 2024 for around €10m - and is under contract until 2029. Club president Olivier Letang has now responded to transfer interest in his prized asset.

Liverpool interest in MFP confirmed

A report in L’Equipe claims Liverpool are among the suitors for the five-cap Belgian - but his services are very much required at Lille for the season ahead.

“The player would like to leave Lille this summer, with Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Atlético Madrid all interested in signing him,” the report reads.

“Having arrived in Lille in August 2024 from Gent for €10 million, the Belgian international (5 caps) has been considering a move for almost a year. “And his recent change of agent – ​​the third in two years – hasn't altered his intentions.”

Club president rules out Fernandez-Pardo sale

Letang is adamant that the forward will NOT be sold - as he is needed to play up front to cover the injury-enforced absence of Hamza Igamane. He played there towards the back end of last season - yielding five goals and two assists.

"The player is under contract until 2029, and his departure is not an issue. We are counting on him, he knows that, and we have been very clear with him,” Letang said.

"He never had a release clause. Every player I told could leave has left. It's the same old story as last summer, with yet another new agent.”

Maybe further down the line a deal for Fernandez-Pardo will become available but right now it seems as though his arrival can be ruled out.
