Liverpool have been given confirmation of a new threat from Real Madrid. There's no escaping it now.
Liverpool dealt with the threat of Real Madrid all of last season as Trent Alexander-Arnold's contract came to expiry. The rumours and reports circulated for over a year.
Of course, Alexander-Arnold did in fact join Real Madrid. Technically he didn't wait until the end of his contract - Liverpool somehow got £10m for the Scouser even after he'd played his final game for them.

But in truth, the Reds battle Real Madrid for players all the time. Half of their first-team squad was linked with a move to Anfield before heading there.
Alexander-Arnold represented something slightly different. He was an actual Liverpool player that Real Madrid successfully unsettled and signed.
Now there are reports that they're set to do it again and the Reds have essentially had confirmation on that.
It’s not a secret that Real Madrid want to sign a new centre-back in 2026. Ibrahima Konate has been linked solidly this year, given his contract expires at the end of the season.
But he wasn’t reportedly their first choice. That was supposedly William Saliba, who would have entered the final year of his deal next summer.
Would have.
Arsenal have now announced a new contract with the Frenchman, tying him down until 2030. It rules out any move to Real Madrid and virtually guarantees that they’ll instead try for Konate.
