Andoni Iraola has a lot of work to do before the 2026-27 season kicks off.

The Spaniard needs to figure out which players he wants to keep and which players he wants to replace.

And, with Andy Robertson, Ibrahima Konate and Mohamed Salah all exiting on free transfers already, he's got a lot that he needs to juggle.

Of course, the performance of his players in the World Cup could end up helping him choose what he wants to do but, until he has his entire squad together, it'll be rather unclear.

However, this hasn't stopped Liverpool from being linked with several players already with the club even being handed a massive boost in their transfer chase for one highly sought-after player.

Alexis Mac Allister is on top of Real Madrid's transfer shortlist

One player who really failed to live up to expectations during the 2025-26 season was Alexis Mac Allister.

The Argentinian seemingly forgot how to run and, even though he assisted his teammates on a couple of occasions, his performance levels were nowhere near the standard he's set throughout the rest of his career.

Despite this, a fresh report from Santi Aouna via Madrid Xtra has shared that Mac Allister is part of Real Madrid's 'ideal recruitment plan' this summer.

"The ideal recruitment plan internally would be: Vitinha, William Saliba, Alexis Mac Allister and Erling Haaland," Aouna said.

"Saliba is particularly appreciated and Real Madrid have long believed he would be open to joining. Madrid is considered his dream destination by many people around the situation.

"Madrid’s dream market is ambitious, with Vitinha, Saliba, Mac Allister and Haaland all named by Aouna.

"Saliba stands out from that list. Aouna says Madrid have long appreciated him and believe he would be open to joining, with people around the situation considering Madrid his dream destination.

"The dream list is separate from the most advanced cases."

Selling Alexis Mac Allister could boost Liverpool's chances of signing Alex Scott

Everybody knows that Liverpool will be changing their ranks massively this summer.

There are several areas of their first-team squad that need altering and, if they don't do this, they could end up falling even further behind their rivals than they were this term.

This need to change has resulted in several players such as Bournemouth's Alex Scott being linked with an Anfield switch.

However, since Liverpool are a sell-to-buy club, they'll need to generate plenty of funds before making moves.

Curtis Jones, Cody Gakpo and Mac Allister have all been linked with exits but, if Hughes can manage to get the £85 million he wants for Mac Allister, the Reds will be well in the money.

This sudden influx of cash would massively boost their chances of signing Scott, especially with Iraola now at the helm.

The young Englishman knows exactly how the Spaniard wants his team to play and, for the £60 million that the Cherries want for him, it feels like an absolute steal, especially if they earn £25 million more than that from moving Mac Allister on.
