Liverpool signed four new players this summer.

And, while each of them have already had a fairly positive impact on the way that things have gone at Anfield, it still feels like more needs to be done before the Reds are ready to start competing for the Premier League title again.

Indeed, Andoni Iraola's main goal this season will be to try and add some silverware to Liverpool's trophy cabinet but, at the very least, he'll be expected to finish in the top four.

At the moment, the Anfield outfit are unbeaten across all competitions but, the vast majority of their performances have been less than convincing.

So, by the time January comes around, it would be unsurprising to see the Reds try and make a move for one or two more players.

That is, especially since it now feels like Liverpool have been given the green light to sign one of Iraola's former men.

Illia Zabarnyi was entirely left out of Paris Saint-Germain's squad vs Brest

One of the main defenders to have been linked with a Liverpool move this summer was Illia Zabarnyi.

The Ukrainian hasn't always found himself as a regular feature for Luis Enrique since his move from Bournemouth back in 2025.

Indeed, he did feature in 37 games across all competitions but, in their Champions League-winning run, he only started two of those ties.

Zabarnyi's lack of starts led to the centre-back being linked with an exit from the Parc Des Princes and, now that Enrique has left him out of his squad entirely in their 1-0 win against Brest on Saturday, it certainly feels like an exit could be on the cards again.

The defender can be used as a centre-back or a right-back which, before Ronald Araujo was signed, was one of the main areas that Liverpool needed to upgrade.

And, since Araujo is only on loan to the Reds, it could still become a major problem area for them in the future.

So, Zabarnyi being left out of PSG's squad entirely over the weekend has opened up the idea of the Ukrainian becoming a Liverpool player once again.

And, since the relationship between the Reds and the Parisian's is fairly strong , a deal could certainly be on the cards.

Andoni Iraola could help convince Illia Zabarnyi to join Liverpool

Iraola was the main reason behind Zabarnyi joining Bournemouth back in 2023.

Before the Spaniard asked to sign him, the youngster was playing for Dynamo Kyiv and was signed by them for around £24 million.

At the time, this felt like quite a bold move for a young defender but, he quickly managed to prove that he belonged with his performances being enough to prove to PSG that he was ready for the step up.

The fact that Iraola and Zabarnyi have worked together before could be massive, as, without the Spaniard, Zabarnyi wouldn't have been put on the map as quickly as he was.

And, now that Enrique is leaving him out of his plans entirely, it does feel like another moved could be on the cards for the defender.

His prior experience of the Premier League could also be massive as, with how young and inexperienced the rest of Liverpool's team is, bringing someone who already knows how tough England's top flight is could be crucial.

Obviously, nothing is set in stone yet but, if Liverpool are looking to bolster their defensive ranks in the future, the Ukrainian could definitely be an option that they choose to explore.
