Liverpool’s attacking options are set for a significant lift as Alexander Isak edges closer to full fitness. After months on the sidelines, his return to team training offers renewed optimism, not only for Arne Slot but for a squad pushing through the decisive stretch of the campaign. This is more than just another player coming back, it is a genuine squad boost with tangible impact.
Isak has been absent since December following a serious ankle injury that included a fibula fracture. It was a cruel setback, arriving at a moment when the striker was finding rhythm, even scoring in that win at Tottenham Hotspur before being forced off. Surgery followed, and with it a long rehabilitation process that tested both patience and resilience.
Now, the next phase begins. Slot confirmed the development, stating: “I think Alex is in a really good place because Sweden qualified for the World Cup yesterday evening and apart from that he’s going to train with the group again for the first time tomorrow.”
That statement alone signals progress. Returning to group sessions is always a key milestone. It means the physical work has been done, the conditioning rebuilt, and the player is ready to re-integrate into competitive dynamics.

Slot’s words reflect more than cautious optimism, they underline just how important Isak’s return could be. He said: “If you’ve worked so hard for three, four months or something like that and then to return to team training, that’s for everyone very nice. So Alex is, in that sense, in a good place.”
There is a collective lift when a major signing returns. Teammates respond to it, the intensity in training rises, and competition sharpens. For a manager, it expands tactical flexibility. Isak brings movement, presence, and a natural instinct in front of goal, qualities that can elevate an already productive attack.
Liverpool have created chances consistently this season, but adding Isak back into the mix could make that threat even more clinical. Slot acknowledged this, saying: “Of course it’s only his first session, after three or four months [out], with the team but it’s good to have him back because we all know who we signed and we’ve signed an incredible striker.”
That belief is key. It reinforces that Isak is not just a squad player, he is central to the attacking structure when fit. Even if he is eased back carefully, his presence alone alters opposition planning.
There is no rush, and Slot made that clear: “So to have him again in a team that’s usually generating quite a lot chances, and maybe not immediately from the first moment that he can start, but to have him back for the last two months is, I think, very helpful for us.”
That measured approach is vital. Liverpool do not need to gamble, they need to integrate him smartly. If managed correctly, Isak’s return could be decisive. Fresh legs, proven quality, and hunger after months out often translate into sharp performances.
For Liverpool, this is the right boost at the right time. The run in demands depth, quality, and resilience. Isak brings all three, and his return could yet shape how this season finishes.
