Liverpool's attack is in dire need of reinforcements.

Indeed, Arne Slot may have blamed his downfall on the sheer number of injuries that his players suffered, but, now that he's been sacked, it's clear that Fenway Sports Group didn't feel the same.

Several managers have already been linked with Liverpool but, at the moment, it feels like Andoni Iraola will be the man to take over.

And, despite the club not having anyone in charge of their first-team squad at the moment, many players have been linked with an Anfield switch ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Liverpool's attack is one of the main areas which needs improving and now, they've been handed a major boost in their chase for one of their reported targets.

Rafael Leao has requested to leave AC Milan this summer

Ever since Rafael Leao left Lille for AC Milan, the Portugal international has been linked with moves away.

The attacker is a left-winger by trade but, this season, he's been used as Milan's striker on 23 occasions.

During that time, he's contributed to 13 goal across all competitions and, since he's only 26 years old, there's still plenty of time for him to become even better.

Every season, several clubs are linked with a move for the attacker but now, as per an update from Sport TV Portugal, it feels like his time in the Serie A could finally be up.

"I'm proud as I made history at AC Milan but I want new chapter. I feel ready to play in another league," Leao said.

"I did my best for Milan, but it’s time to try another challenge."

Rafael Leao could be Liverpool's replacement for Luis Diaz

Liverpool may have earned a more than decent fee by selling Luis Diaz last summer but, after the performances he's put in this term, it feels like Slot would have been better off keeping him around.

The Colombian was one of the Dutchman's most important players during their title-winning campaign and, since he was 29 years old and wanted a bumper new contract, the Reds didn't think he was worth it and chose against extending his stay.

Indeed, Liverpool did get £65.5 million for his transfer but, since he scored 23 goals and assisted his teammates 26 times during the 2025-26 campaign, it's unclear whether he was worth moving on or not.

And, since the Reds failed to replace him properly, Leao could be the way that they finally manage to do that.

A fee worth around £43 million is all that would be required to prise him away from the San Siro, which compared to the £85 million that RB Leipzig want for Yan Diomande, feels like a pretty good deal.

Here's hoping that the Reds appoint a new head coach soon so that some transfers can be made.
