Liverpool have already found their Alexis Mac Allister replacement

Of all Liverpool's players, Alexis Mac Allister feels like the one who's closest to exiting.

The Argentina international may have been one of the Premier League's best midfielders during Jurgen Klopp's era and even during their 2024-25 Premier League winning season but, this time around, nothing has gone right.

Mac Allister seems to have forgotten how to run and, when on the ball, fans would often get nervous about what he planned to do with it.

Unsurprisingly, while playing for Argentina at the 2026 World Cup, the 27-year-old has been sublime which makes no sense, especially since he's only being used in a similar system to what Liverpool deploy.

Real Madrid are the main team vying for his transfer and, while many people feel like the Reds will have to spend big so that they can replace him, Andoni Iraola may have a trick or two up his sleeve to plug the gap.

Trey Nyoni could easily be Liverpool's new Alexis Mac Allister

Trey Nyoni is one of the few youngsters that Arne Slot trusted during his time in charge of the club.

Of course, Rio Ngumoha was actually starting Premier League games towards the end of his tenure but, in Nyoni's case, he was regularly being brought on as a late-game substitute.

Although he only played 237 minutes across all competitions this term, when he came on, he brought a level of energy to Liverpool that they'd been seriously lacking.

And, since Iraola is all about promoting youth players to his first-team squad, Nyoni has a much better chance of regular game time in the 2026-27 season.

So, if he performs well in the Reds' pre-season and Mac Allister does actually get moved on, Liverpool could have a ready-made replacement for the Argentinian without having to spend a penny.

Why Trey Nyoni would be a perfect replacement for Alexis Mac Allister at Liverpool

Nyoni's experience in Liverpool's first-team squad will prove invaluable to him in the 2026-27 season.

Even though Slot wasn't a manager who had a lot of faith in youth players, the small amount of experience that the Englishman got this season will have prepared him for what life would be like for him if he was a Premier League player.

Of course, replacing a player who's as well-known as Mac Allister is a tough ask for anybody but, since the 18-year-old will be fighting for a place in Iraola's plans this summer, he needs to try and match, if not better the Argentinian's level.

As per Fotmob, in the Premier League 2 this season, Nyoni has maintained a pass accuracy of 88.9 per cent and has completed 344 passes in just seven matches.

During those games, he chipped in with four assists and created 14 chances altogether.

Defensively, he's also fairly solid as he's managed to make 21 defensive contributions and has only been dribbled past seven times.

Of course, plenty of areas within his game are still raw but, with the vast amount of experience he has and his passing clearly top-notch, it feels like now could be the right time for him to step up and leave his mark.
