This week has seen links between Barcelona and Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez intensified. The Uruguayan deleted all evidence on Instagram of his links with the Premier League giants, which has sparked speculation over his future ahead of the summer transfer window opening soon.

Further details on Nunez’s situation have now been revealed by Mas Que Pelotas (via Sport). They say that his agent Jorge Mendes, who also has very close ties with Barcelona and Joan Laporta, is the driving force behind this talk of a Liverpool departure in the summer.

“Mendes wants him to leave Liverpool. He’s a player he thinks of very highly and has other aspirations for him.”

They also say that Liverpool are prepared to sell Nunez if necessary, and they have already set a minimum asking price for any interested clubs.

“Nunez’s value has risen in recent years, and Liverpool will not sell him for less than €85m.”

It’s highly likely that Barcelona will not make a move for Nunez in the summer, simply because they can’t afford him. If they can make significant sales during the transfer window, it may become a possibility, especially considering that there’s doubts over the striker position in Xavi Hernandez’s squad.
