Liverpool are set for an attacking overhaul this summer.

At the end of last season Richard Hughes spent £450m fortifying the squad. Among the arrivals were central attackers in the shape of Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike.

Following a poor campaign there has been noise coming out of Anfield suggesting that wingers are the priority for Hughes and Arne Slot.

One-v-one specialists are seen as the must-have signings around the AXA Training Centre - with Yan Diomande and Bradley Barcola among those seen as potential recruits.

With Mo Salah leaving and Federico Chiesa very likely to join him on the exit ramp we can expect to see competition signed on the right wing for Jeremie Frimpong.

And Liverpool’s search has brought them to Paris per a report in L’Equipe where Barcola is under consideration.

Barcola under consideration by Liverpool

However the report also adds that Barcola is seen more as a left-wing option inside the corridors of power - and right now that’s not what Liverpool are looking for.

It looks like the Reds will pass on the opportunity to sign Barcola - whose contract talks with Paris Saint-Germain have reached an impasse.

“Barcola's profile as an athletic winger is highly sought after on the market,” the report reads.

“Liverpool's interest is genuine, but the Reds' decision-makers are well aware that the Parisian is more comfortable on the left wing.”

The reason Liverpool won’t pursue Barcola?

Liverpool prefer Ngumoha to Barcola

The 17-year-old was promoted to Arne Slot’s first-team squad last summer and given a new contract when he became old enough to sign one.

While many fans have been frustrated about Slot’s seeming lack of usage of the teenage sensation there is no doubt that he is seen as a potential future star on Merseyside.

Indeed the French report is claiming that a left-winger is NOT on the agenda this summer because Slot and the rest of the key figures around Liverpool don’t want to put obstacles in Ngumoha’s way.

LFC want Ngumoha to thrive on left wing

“They want to make room for the promising 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha in that position,” the report claims.

“While the matter is still under consideration, Liverpool are currently looking for a right-sided specialist.

“If Barcola's future becomes clear, it will most likely be in England, where Arsenal are also interested.”

Ngumoha has had to play second-fiddle to Cody Gakpo for large parts of the season but has come into the reckoning as a starter in recent weeks.

That can be explained through the injuries to both Ekitike and Isak with Gakpo played through the middle. What happens next season is anyone’s guess - but the signs are positive for Ngumoha.

Barcola, 23, is seen as one of the best wingers in the European game - gearing up for a Champions League final versus Arsenal next week.

But Liverpool believe they’ve got a talent in the ranks who is even better than the France international. It’s now down to Ngumoha to live up to that potential.
